FY27-FY29 Long Range Plan

During the last year, the library staff and board worked together to develop our next long range plan. Some of you attended a focus group and others completed a survey. Community input was essential in the planning process, and we appreciated the support of both our users and non-users.

I’ve been the director now for fifteen years, and this is the fifth time I’ve done long range planning in Princeville. It was one of the first things that the board asked me to do when I got here, and that is because it is so important.

Superior library service doesn’t just happen. To achieve excellence, you need a plan. The LME Library uses community input to regularly to test assumptions, revisit choices, and align our goals. Since every community is different, excellence must be defined locally—it results when library services match community needs, interests, and priorities.

The FY27-FY29 plan has been adopted, and we look forward to implementing it. We have also updated our mission statement which helps us direct our services and programs. It appears at the top of every plan, but I’ll share it here: “The mission of the Lillie M. Evans Library District is to connect people to resources and services, inspire life-long learning, and help our community thrive.”

Thank you to all who assisted in the process as we continue to seek new and better ways to serve our community.

Survey - March 2026

During the month of March, the LME Library is surveying the members of our library district. This survey will assist us with the development of our next long range plan. We are looking for input from library and non-library users so that we can find out how we can improve our library and services to better meet your needs. Your input is very valuable to us, and all responses will be kept anonymous. If you could take a few minutes to respond to the survey, it would assist in our planning efforts. The online survey is available at: https://bit.ly/LMESurvey61559

Thank you very much for participating in our survey!

Long Range Planning FY15-FY17

In the spring of 2014, the Lillie M. Evans Library District began working on a long range plan covering FY15-FY17. We started with a survey in April that asked for input from both our library users and non-users.  Next we held a focus group in May.  Community members representing many diverse perspectives participated in an evening long activity facilitated by the former Director of Consulting & Continuing Education at the Alliance Library System. After the results were compiled, the director analyzed the information collected and identified three goals for each year of the plan.  The staff and board then worked together to refine these goals.

As part of the long range planning process, the LME Library Board identified multiple building needs and proceeded with the development of a Building Program in fall 2014.  Led by consultant Fred Schlipf, the program outlines the space needs of the library and is the first step in a building project.  This delayed the development of the long range plan until February 2015, but all three years have now been approved by the Board.  Plans are available online for FY15, FY16, and FY17.  We have also updated the Technology Plan for 2014-2017.

Thank you to all who participated in the planning process. We could not complete these plans without the input of our patrons, community, staff and board.  As our mission states, it is our goal “to provide materials and services to help residents meet their personal, educational, cultural, and professional needs.  The Lillie M. Evans Library District supports an environment for life-long learning and is dedicated to making the Princeville community an attractive place in which to live, visit, and work.”  Your input helps us provide the best materials, programs, and services for our community—thank you!

Long Range Planning—setting our next goals

The last time we did a long range plan was three years ago when I first joined LME Library.  We’ve been using the information we gathered and the goals we set to map our library services through FY14.  Now we are looking for input from the community as we evaluate new possibilities and develop a plan for FY15-FY17.
Throughout April and May, the Lillie M. Evans Library District invites you to participate in the long-range planning process for your library.  Some of you may attend a focus group and others may complete a library survey.  Community input is essential in the planning process, and we appreciate the support of both our users and non-users.

Superior library service doesn’t just happen.  To achieve excellence, you need a plan.  The Board of Trustees is committed to developing a long-range plan with a series of objectives that support the vision that our community has presented.  In early summer, the Board will share this long-range plan with you as we continue to seek new and better ways to serve our community.

Wrap up to Long Range Planning

In the fall of 2010, the Lillie M. Evans Library District began working on a long range plan for the next 3 years. Community members participated in a focus group in November, and we compiled the responses and made them available on this blog http://librarylill.blogspot.com/2011/02/long-range-planning-update.html. During the month of December, we conducted a user survey, and those results have were also posted on this blog.

The Staff and Board of the Lillie M. Evans Library District have analyzed the information collected and have developed a long range plan for FY2012-2014. Three goals have been identified for each year of the plan. In addition, the library’s mission statement has been revised to more accurately reflect the role we play in the community. The goals and mission document is now available online.

Thank you to all who participated. Your input has helped us concentrate on the best materials, programs, and services for our community!

Long Range Planning Update

As I mentioned in my November and December posts, community input is essential in our long range planning process. In November, we conducted a focus group and in December, we canvassed our community with an online survey. Thank you to everyone who participated! The data from the focus group and results from the survey are now available online.

The planning process is “on schedule”, and the Board and Staff are reviewing the data. As we seek new and better ways to serve our community, we will continue to share our progress.

Long-Range Planning for the Library

As we move toward another new year, the Lillie M. Evans Library District has embarked on developing our next long-range plan. The library last held a long-range planning process in the fall of 2003. Members of many different facets of the district were invited to participate in a community visioning committee, and the process resulted in a presentation to the school board, the village board, and the library board. The Board of Trustees of the Lillie M. Evans Library District took the results of that report and used them to develop the 2005-2008 Long Range Plan.

Three major roles were seen for the library: 1) Providing the community with information on Current Topics and Events, 2) Supporting Life-long Learning for our community, 3) Providing a Commons, an area where the community can gather for information, recreation, and socialization.  The goals and objectives that were created have directed many library decisions regarding services and programs, providing current technology resources, and creating an inviting atmosphere that encourages public gathering and interaction. As we move to the future, there are endless possibilities for ways that your library can provide for the needs and desires of the people who live here.

“Excellence must be defined locally—it results when library services match community, needs, interests, and priorities.” (Sandra Nelson, New Planning for Results)

Throughout November and December, the Lillie M. Evans Library District invites you to participate in the long-range planning process for your library. We are looking for input from the community as we evaluate new possibilities and develop a three year plan for our wonderful facility and staff. Some of you have been asked to attend a focus group and others will be asked to complete a survey. Community input is essential in the planning process and we appreciate the support of both our users and non-users. Superior library service doesn’t just happen. To achieve excellence, you need a plan. The Board of Trustees is committed to developing a long-range plan with a series of objectives that support the vision that our community has presented. In the spring, the Board will be sharing this long-range plan with you as we continue to seek new and better ways to serve our community.
